Application of Thermal Shrinkage Casing in Ships

Modern warships are used in harsh environments for a long time. The quality of various electrical equipment on warships directly affects the reliable use of equipment. The application of heat shrinkable casing technology on warships can not only prevent water, steam, salt and other corrosion, but also eliminate stress. It has excellent insulation, wear resistance and stress elimination performance. It overcomes the disadvantages of poor removability of commonly used DMT-J2 plugged sealing filler, poor forming effect of DFD-I soft plugging material and easy to flow and stick.

In order to ensure the successful application of heat-shrinkable casing technology on warships, it is necessary to carefully control the selection of heat-shrinkable casing, the treatment of cable heat-shrinkable casing in construction, the heat-shrinkable packaging of several typical joints and the heating forming process to ensure the construction quality.

The diameter of heat shrinkable sleeve should be based on the diameter of cable, filler culvert or special plug and socket. The materials with different shrinkage ratios can be selected. Generally, the materials with 2.5, 1 and 3:1 shrinkage ratios can be selected. The basic principle is that the diameter of the heat shrinkable tube before heating is larger than that of the cable, and the minimum diameter after heating must be smaller than that of the cable.

The diameter of heat shrinkable sleeve should not be too large or too small, otherwise it can not achieve the effect of sealing and strengthening. When choosing casing, attention should also be paid to thin and thick type. Generally, when the heat shrinkable sleeve is installed on the cable root, branch outlet of cable core, special plug and single filler culvert, the thick type can be selected; when it is installed on the whole core wire, core terminal, or special plug, socket inner core wire and connector (welding needle, socket pin), the thin type pipe can be selected.

The shrinkable sleeve will shrink and fasten to the joint only when it is heated to a certain temperature. When heated by hot air gun, the ring must be heated evenly, the distance should be generally controlled at 30-50 mm, and the heating temperature should be controlled at 120-130 C. Hot air gun outlet should not be too close to the heated material, otherwise, the material will be burnt because of the high temperature or local high temperature. Under normal operation and construction, when the casing is evenly and tightly wrapped on the cable, special plug, socket or filling culvert, its surface is smooth and bright, indicating that the heating shrinkage is complete. If there is a hot melt or sealant for sealing in the heat-shrinkable pipe, it is advisable to have a little glue tongue overflow at both ends when heating.
